Fair Trade and Economic Justice

Four Corners of the World Fair Trade Store is Now Open at Its New Location at 5401 West Vliet Street, the former home of the UNICEF Store

In his papal encyclical Peace on Earth Pope John XXIII stresses the need for all people to provide for the universal common good of the global family.  All people have the right to life, food, clothing, shelter, health care, education and work with a just wage.  Human dignity, which is given by God to every person, flourishes where each person has the ability to adequately care for themselves and their family, and the ability to contribute back to the community to which they belong.

These concepts of human dignity and care for the common good of all people are born out in the acts of compassion Jesus Christ bestows upon the poor and down trodden of his society and in the actions of the early Church who in community encouraged the contribution of gifts of each individual while sharing what each had for the common good of all.

    Milwaukee Clean Clothes Campaign

A fundamental Catholic belief is that of valuing and respecting the sacredness of human life. As Catholics, we believe that each person has a God-given right to respect and dignity.  Our Catholic Social Teaching has inspired
    a
"Clean Clothes Campaign" as a means of becoming a Clean Clothes Community.

The focus of this Campaign is to gain a greater understanding of the issue of
sweatshops and what we can do about them in a positive way. It brings home the important questions: “Where do my clothes come from?” and “Who makes my clothes and under what conditions?” This understanding of sweatshops brings a personal awareness and provide encouragement to parents, teachers and students to purchase school uniforms, as well as spirit and sports wear, that are made under just working conditions. This is not about boycotting, nor about marching in the streets. It is about making moral decisions. It is about respecting life!
